Yes, Drone Delivery Is Available In Georgia as a Test

What is drone delivery?

Drone delivery is a method of transporting goods using unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), commonly known as drones to customers. In several experimental tests, retailers and companies are loading packages or goods onto a drone, which then flies to the destination like a customers home residence. The drone uses GPS, sensors, and other systems to ensure that it reaches the correct location and will often land and detach the package or drop it down while mid-flight from it’s fuselage or lowered down on a wire system.

Delivery via drones can offer several benefits, such as faster times than ground based transportation, lower costs and reduced carbon emissions compared to other methods. However, since this type of delivery is still relatively new, it’s subject to regulation by aviation authorities to ensure safety and security and isn’t fully approved in many places. Additionally, the weight and size of packages that can be delivered by drones are limited by the battery capacity and flight time that drones currently have.

Is It Delivery Available in Georgia?

Yes, delivery via drones is available in Georgia. In Georgia, companies such as Manna and DroneUp are active. As a result, residents of Georgia can access this type of delivery. For example in a pilot program, Georgia residents can have pizza delivered delivered through drones. How Much Does it Cost?

There is no delivery fee for consumers. However, if the service is deployed for commercial or other custom flights, then a basic fee for delivery could apply.

How Does it Work?

It’s essentially a high-tech drop-off. From an Atlanta Journal Constitution article: “Drone Express has a pilot and a visual observer handling each drone takeoff. The pizza is wrapped in a disposable hot bag and tethered to the drone in a parking lot, while another Drone Express staff member waits at the house, where the pizza is lowered to the ground by a winch from about 15 feet in the air”

Yet, adopting this requires more manpower than traditional methods of delivery. Drones can be used to deliver single pies to customers that reside within a mile of the chain’s location.
